Dreaming of excellent therapy for our community.
Our story starts in February 2017. Our co-founders, Sam and Ragan, met for the first time on interview day for the Marriage and Family Therapy PhD program at Brigham Young University. The day was filled with excitement and nervousness, especially considering BYU’s MFT program was then (and is still now to our knowledge) the #1 ranked Marriage and Family Therapy program in the nation. Through all the excitement, a friendship and connection over a passion for therapy began to form. For the next 4 years, Sam and Ragan would interact through classes, shared papers and projects, reviewing one another’s therapy, in social outings, etc. During those intense academic years, Sam and Ragan, who eventually became Dr. Ryland and Dr. Lybbert, discussed dreams of creating a clinic of their own, where the office space itself was healing and peaceful, where excellent, high-quality therapy was practiced, and where no clinician was stuck out on a metaphorical island with no one with whom to discuss therapy questions, thoughts, and concerns. From that idea, Gumtree Therapy was born.
