Faith-Affirming Therapy in Provo, Utah

Therapy that works with your faith, not around it.

At Gumtree Therapy, we understand that for many of our clients, faith isn’t separate from mental health — it’s part of how you make sense of your struggles, your relationships, and your path forward. You shouldn’t have to choose between honoring your beliefs and getting high-quality therapy.

We work with clients across the faith spectrum — lifelong members, those questioning or transitioning, interfaith couples, and clients of other religious traditions. Whatever your relationship to faith looks like right now, our goal isn’t to challenge your beliefs or push a particular outcome. It’s to help you work through what’s actually bringing you in — anxiety, depression, relationship strain, trauma, grief, faith concerns or support regarding your beliefs— with a therapist who won’t treat your faith as incidental or as the problem.

Questions You Might Be Asking

If you’re considering therapy but have questions about how faith fits into the process, you’re not alone. Here are some things clients often want to know before reaching out.

Will you try to talk me out of my beliefs?
No. Our role is to support your mental health, not to weigh in on your theology or push you toward a particular conclusion about your faith. That’s true whether you’re firmly rooted in your beliefs, questioning them, or somewhere in between.

Do you understand LDS culture specifically?
Yes. Our therapists all have an LDS background, so we bring firsthand understanding of the culture, language, and  expectations that shape a lot of what you’re navigating — whether that’s related to family dynamics, church involvement, a life or faith transition, or something else entirely. You won’t have to explain the basics before we can actually get to the work.

What if my spouse and I are at different places with faith?
This comes up often in couples work, especially around faith transitions. We can help you navigate the relationship strain this creates without either of you feeling like your therapist is taking a side.

Is this only for Latter-day Saints?
No — while many of our clients are LDS given our location, we welcome clients of any faith background or none at all. Faith doesn’t have to be an element of therapy; we’re experienced in faith-informed approaches when that’s helpful to you, and just as comfortable leaving faith out of the conversation entirely.
